Gregory S. Cusimano graduated from the University of Alabama in 1965 receiving a B.S. He received a Juris Doctor degree in 1968.
Returning to Gadsden, he served his community through various civic organizations. Professionally he served in every office of the Alabama Association for Justice, (formally ATLA) including President. The Alabama Supreme Court requested he serve on the Committee to rewrite the Alabama Rules of Evidence. He was also appointed by the Supreme Court to take part in re-writing the Alabama Pattern Jury Instructions. In addition Greg was appointed by the Supreme Court to the Standing Committee of the Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure. Greg by invitation, he served as Practitioner in Residence at the University of Alabama School of Law. He has been active in his State Bar Association serving the Council of the Alabama Law Institute, the Alabama Academy of Attorney Mediators and numerous committees. Greg was elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and Alabama Chapter of ABOTA.
Greg served on the President's Council of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, a member of its Board of Governors, the Key man Committee, PAC Task Force Committee, Trial By Jury Committee, State Legislative Advisory Committee, and the Constitutional Challenge Committee. He served as National Chairperson of the Committee to Review Litigation Groups, Co-Chaired the Litigation Group Oversight and Liaison Committee, and the Curriculum Development Committee. He served as Vice Chair and Co-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National College of Advocacy. Greg was elected to the Executive Committee of the Association of Trial Lawyers multiple terms. He was elected to serve on the Budget Committee. He was appointed to the American Bar Association’s Advisory Panel.
Greg was a faculty member of the first Ultimate Trial College at Harvard. He designed NCA’s Case Workshop College, and along with David Wenner the Overcoming Juror Bias program, a program that received a national award. Greg lectured for his State Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and other State and Bar Associations across the country.
Greg is listed in Best Lawyers in America and Best of the U.S, was the second inductee into the Hall of Fame of the Small Office Practice Section of AAJ, and received the designation of Diplomate of Trial Advocacy. He was inducted as a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and as a Life Fellow of the Alabama Bar Foundation. Greg is the fifth recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the American Association for Justice (formally ATLA). He is a Diplomate of the International Academy of Litigators.
Greg has published numerous articles in State and National magazines and contributed to articles in various treatises. In 1990, Michie released a major work called Alabama Tort Law Handbook. The second edition, entitled Alabama Tort Law, Greg is the contributing editor of each subsequent edition of these works. His closing argument in the case of Peterson v. Super Value Stores was included in Professional Techniques Library's MILLION DOLLAR ARGUMENT SERIES for continuing legal education. He has written articles for TRIAL magazine; ATLA ADVOCATE , the ALABAMA LAW REVIEW, on proposed Rules of Evidence, and Lawyers U.S.A and many others.
Thomson/West recently published a six-volume work co-edited by Mr. Cusimano entitled, “ATLA’s Litigating Tort Cases”. This work has been described as “The equivalent of 66 different CLE courses, rolled into one resource.” The Association of Trial Lawyers of America released a set of five videos by Mr. Cusimano, along with West Virginia trial lawyer, Jim Lees, entitled, “Commanding the Courtroom.
Greg has successfully served as a litigation coach in routine cases as well as cases that have resulted in billion dollar verdicts. He and David Wenner developed the Jury Bias Model™
Greg is presently an owner of the law firm Cusimano, Keener, Roberts & Raley in Gadsden, Alabama as well as a Principal at Winning Works LLC.
